HK Pretreatment Plant

With our own non-hazardous pretreatment plant in Des Moines, Iowa, generators can be confident that we will handle their waste according to all applicable regulations. We operate the facility according to the Centralized Waste Treatment (CWT) regulations of 40 CFR 437 and can accept most all non-hazardous waste streams.

  • Petroleum Impacted Water
  • Oil/Water Emulsions
  • Separator Pits
  • Metal Working Coolants & Fluids
  • Ethylene & Propylene Glycol Solutions
  • Petroleum Soaked Absorbent Materials
  • Contaminated Soil
  • Metals Laden Process Water
  • Tank Farm Containment Areas

The treatment process begins with the review of a completed waste profile, as well as a treatability analysis.  Following approval of the waste stream, we arrange transportation and deliver the material to our facility. The first step in the treatment process is to remove any oil and solids from the waste stream. Recovered oil is ultimately either re-refined or used in asphalt and concrete production. After removing dissolved metals and suspended solids, the treated water is discharged to the sanitary sewer system en route to the local publicly owned treatment works (POTW).  Sediment and sludge generated during the treatment process is dewatered and transported to the landfill for disposal.

The facility also enables Hydro-Klean to utilize several sustainable practices. With energy efficient lighting, waste minimization practices and our water reuse initiative, the facility uses less than 50 gallons of potable water per week.
